CA1 Interneuron Specific O-R
* indicates new v2.0 neuron type
Name Supertype (ID:Family:Type:Subregion)
CA1 (i)0102 Interneuron Specific O-R S091204:Interneuron Specific:IS:CA1

Name derivation
This cell is verified to preferentially target non-principal cells. Although more politically loaded, the phrase "interneuron specific" is more compact than "non-principal cell-specific" and is more commonly found in the cited literature. This name is a variant of "O-LM" since the soma and dendrites are in SO and the axons project to SR. CA1 clarifies the subregion of origin, since the name is otherwise generic.

Synonym(s)
CA1 calretinin-immunoreactive interneuron
CA1 CR-IR cell
CA1 CR-IR neuron

Notes
This cell type is a merger of CA1 (-)0102 IS-I and CA1 (-)0112 IS-I

Previous merger of CA1 (-)0102 IS-I with CA1 0103 O-R (aka oriens-bistratified) was rejected due to the lack of axonal evidence in SO. Namely, even with six consecutive 80 µm sections, axons were not significantly present.

According to Gulyás, the CR interneurons in this cell type innervate mostly if not exclusively other GABAergic neurons via multiple synapses

supplement to CA1 (i)0102 Interneuron Specific O-R added - 05/25/2016

The Hajos 1998 cell is m2-IR.

The Chittajallu 2013 cell is SOM+.

Besides being m2-IR, the Hajos 1998 cell is also CB-, CCK-, VIP-, PV-, CR+/-, SOM+/-
