CA1 Interneuron Specific LM-R
* indicates new v2.0 neuron type
Name Supertype (ID:Family:Type:Subregion)
CA1 (i)2100 Interneuron Specific LM-R S091204:Interneuron Specific:IS:CA1

Name derivation
This cell is verified to preferentially target non-principal cells. Although more politically loaded, the phrase "interneuron specific" is more compact than "non-principal cell-specific" and is more commonly found in the cited literature. This name is a variant of "O-LM" since the dendrites are in SLM and the axons project to SR. CA1 clarifies the subregion of origin, since the name is otherwise generic.

"Fig. 2. Camera lucida drawings of two VIP[vasoactive intestinal polypeptide]-positive interneurons {CA1 Interneuron Specific LM-R} projecting to stratum radiatum [of the CA1] and with dendrites restricted to stratum lacunosum-moleculare. These neurons were selected for postsynaptic analysis. Note the variable interbouton distances and the vertically oriented bouton rows as characteristics of this cells type. The axon segments between the arrows were selected for correlated electron mircroscopic examination. Arrowheads label axon initial segments."
