DG Axo-axonic GRALDEN*
* indicates new v2.0 neuron type
Name Supertype (ID:Family:Type:Subregion)
DG (i)2210 Axo-axonic GRALDEN* S110901:Perisomatic-targeting:Axo-axonic:DG

Name derivation
The phrase "chandelier cell" has fallen out of use. This variant of the standard Axo-axonic has "GRAnular Layer DENdrites." DG distinguishes these cells from axo-axonic cells in other subregions.

Synonym(s)
DG axo-axonic cell
DG chandelier cell
DG axo-axonic chandelier cell

"Fig. 3. Camera-lucida drawings of two gold-toned axo-axonic chandelier cells in the outer granular layer (A) and inner molecular layer (B) {DG Axo-axonic GRALDEN*} of the fascia dentata. Both cells were subjected to EM analysis. The neuron in A displayed an ovoid perikaryon and an axond complex with vertical rows of boutons. Note the occurrence of isolated varicosities. One of these isolated boutons in the inner molecular layer is illustrated in an electron micrograph (Fig. 10). The large horizontal neuron in B displays a typical axonal complex of chandelier cells forming numerous rows of boutons. Dendrites extend far out into the molecular layer. Bar = 100 [micro]m."
