Morphological Bibliographic Protocols
To cite a source for the morphological definition of a neuronal type, certain requirements need to be satisfied:
1. The soma must be located in one of the subregions of the hippocampal complex, which consists of dentate gyrus, CA3, CA2, CA1, subiculum, and entorhinal cortex.
2. The major neurotransmitter - glutamate, GABA, or others if applicable - must be specified.
3. Both the axons and dendrites must be described, either in the text or graphics.
4. The locations of the axons and dendrites must be identified, down to the level of subregional layers, within the ipsilateral hippocampal complex.
5. There must be clear experimental evidence that more than just a single neuron has been observed of the given type.
6. All evidence pertaining to criteria 1-5 must pass a multi-tier review by at least 3 independent graduate student or post-doctoral researchers and by the faculty PI.
